Overview

There are almost 400 million kilos food wasted a year in Finland. The biggest food waste sector is from households, which waste about 130 million kilos of food a year. To give a hand to solve this problem, we came up with Food saver application. The idea is that this app will help people to manage their food they have in the kitchens, giving recipes based on their available ingredients and sharing expired-soon food.

Top requirements were revealed:

  • Register food
  • Notify when the food is going expired
  • Generate recipe using available ingredients
  • Share food with neighbour
  • Buy missing expired-soon ingredients with cheap price from local store

The prototype is built using React in client side and Node.js in server side.
